Kansas City Office Packs Weekend Meals for Kids
As part of Lochner’s Giving Back Initiative, employees throughout the firm participate in an annual group service project that benefits the local communities in which they live, work, and play. This week, we are featuring the volunteer efforts of our Kansas City, Kansas office at Harvesters, a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. On March 16, 2019, Kansas City employees packed 860 backpacks with healthy, kid-friendly food for the BackSnack program. This program serves 20,000 children and works with local schools to help provide students access to nutritious food on the weekends.
In conjunction with their volunteer hours, Lochner’s Kansas City office hosted a non-perishable food/hygiene drive on behalf of Harvesters. For three weeks, employees brought soup, canned vegetables, bars of soap, rolls of toilet paper, shampoo, and many other items. At the end of the drive, the office nearly doubled their goal of collecting 250 items by collecting 470 items to donate to Harvesters.
Harvesters is dedicated “to feeding hungry people today and working to end hunger tomorrow.” They provide food and assorted household products to more than 760 regional, non-profit agencies including emergency food pantries, community kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes, and many others. The food bank is also a certified member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks, and serves as one of five regional disaster relief staging sites for the national organization.
