Runway 18-36 Reconstruction Wins ACPA Gold Award
Lochner is pleased to announce the Runway 18-36 Reconstruction project at Jesse Viertel Memorial Airport was selected as the 2020 Gold Award winner by the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) for excellence in concrete paving for reliever and general aviation airports. Lochner provided design and construction management services for this City of Boonville, Missouri project.
As part of the reconstruction project, Lochner performed a life-cycle cost analysis to identify concrete as the preferred material and developed the final plans and specifications for a pavement section consisting of six inches of P-501 concrete on 12 inches of aggregate and 12 inches of treated subgrade.
Design was developed for construction within a single phase to limit the amount and length of closures for the single-runway airport. Taking advantage of the closure, Lochner also designed upgrades to the entire airfield lighting system to convert it to LED edge lighting and navigational aids. Three connector taxiways were also constructed during the closure. The project was completed in 141 calendar days, and the new runway was opened 19 days ahead of schedule.
