Lochner Oversees SPMT Bridge Move in Rhode Island
In support of Lochner’s ongoing CEI Services contract with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) for the Reconstruction of Bridge Group 51B: Route 37 C-3 in Cranston, RI, Lochner’s Connecticut CEI staff recently provided field inspection and oversight using accelerated construction methods for the replacement of Bridge 083151, which carries approximately 15,000 vehicles daily.
During a weekend closure, Ramp W-N and Cranston Street were closed with temporary detours in place. The existing bridge was demolished, and the new superstructure was moved from temporary supports in a nearby staging yard onto new GRS-IBS abutments using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs). Once in position, the bridge was backfilled, paved, and reopened to traffic ahead of schedule.
Congratulations to all involved on achieving this important project milestone!
