The successful design process allowed SBCTA to construct its first standalone active transportation project in the County and expanded the regional active transportation network.
The objective of the project was to construct various bicycle and pedestrian facilities in the cities of Montclair, Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana, San Bernardino, and Rialto to provide local residents with non-motorized access to the Metrolink Commuter Rail stations, thereby improving active transportation and increasing transit ridership. Improvements included road diets, traffic signal modifications, enhanced crossings, trail extensions, sidewalk design, wayfinding signage, striping, automated rail crossing gates for pedestrians, bicycle lockers, bicycle parking, bicycle facilities, pavement repairs, and lighting.
Our engineers worked closely with SBCTA staff and all six local jurisdiction agencies to develop plans, specifications and estimates and provide construction assistance for the project which received and American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) California, Engineering Excellence award.
