Valley Metro South Central Light Rail Extension
Location Phoenix, Arizona
Client Valley Metro Rail
- Communication Systems
- Electrical Engineering
The extension will connect South Phoenix to the regional light rail system.
The project includes a hub in downtown Phoenix, 5.5 miles of at-grade trackway, eight at-grade stations, traction power substations, signal buildings, and upgrades to existing system elements to accommodate the light rail extension.
Our design engineers developed plans and specifications and supported the safety certification process for communications systems, including closed-circuit television (CCTV); the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system; fiber optic communications transmission system (CTS); emergency, passenger and maintenance telephones, public address (PA) and passenger information displays; Wi-MAX data radio systems; wayside cable plans; intrusion and heat detection controls; and the traction power substation/signal building low voltage electrical design. We also developed a series of reports for proposed systemwide improvements to the CCTV, PA, CTS, Wi-MAX, voice radio, and the operations control center to support Valley Metro Rail’s expansion plans through 2030.
