San Antonio Water System Page Middle School Emergency Project

Location San Antonio, Texas

Owner San Antonio Water System

Client Page Middle School

In March 2018, a 100-year-old clay sewer pipe collapsed in East San Antonio, creating a sinkhole at Page Middle School. To address the urgent hazard, San Antonio Water System (SAWS) declared the rehabilitation of 1,800 linear feet of 30- to 36-inch pipe an emergency under the ongoing SAWS East Sewershed Package III project.

Our team, already involved in Package III, seamlessly integrated the emergency repair as a change order, skipping the preliminary design phase. We swiftly developed final design documents, determining critical repair areas through site visits, as-built reviews, and CCTV footage analysis.

For a segment lacking conclusive CCTV data, we proposed additional point repairs preemptively. Issuing complete plans within two days, the rehabilitation included Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining, point repairs, manhole rehabilitation, and bypass pumping, completing construction in four weeks. This rapid response allowed normalcy to resume at Page Middle School and prevented further pipe failures.
