Sound Transit – Hilltop Tacoma Link (T Line) Extension
Location Seattle, Washington
Client Sound Transit
- Communications Systems
The project more than doubled the length of the T Line and added six new stations.
Sound Transit’s Hilltop T Line project extends the existing 1.6-mile-long modern streetcar line by 2.4 miles with six new stations and the relocated Theater District station. The new stations connect to popular destinations such as the Stadium District, Wright Park, and major medical facilities, before reaching the new Hilltop neighborhood terminus.
Our team led the communications system design for stations and guideways, and the expansion of the Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) and yard. The scope of services included design of the fiber optic backbone network, closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance systems, radio communications, GPS-based transit signal priority, and access control systems. For the OMF expansion, work included design of a new Tacoma Link dispatch center, the building management system, fire alarm system, access control systems, in-building wireless communications, voice and data networks, and integration with the existing facility. Additionally, we specified systems equipment and installation for the new streetcars and modifications for the existing fleet.
